John 8:31-32  . . . Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Throughout the four gospels Jesus said, “I tell you the truth…” or “Truly I say…” Over and over again Jesus emphasized that His word is the truth–that His way was THE way–that His truth would set you free and give you a happier life.

Today, in modern society, many people believe that biblical teachings have no place in the “secular” world.  Many believe our American society contains two sectors–a secular world and a religious world.  Many insist that these two worlds are not compatible and should remain separate.  However, this is completely contrary to the truth Christ taught.  All truth is God’s truth.

You may teach in a public school and still teach His truth.  God’s wisdom and His Word are principles of living–directions for doing right and turning from wrong.  All of these truths can be shared openly without using the word “God” or without giving scripture and verse.  Truths of kindness, concern for your fellowman, respect, responsibility, joyfulness, honesty, contentment, gentleness, and self-control can be openly trained in any classroom.  Our secular world calls them “character traits.”   They are the principles of righteous living taught throughout the Bible.

Make character training one of the primary goals for your classroom.  Your students will become better men and women because the truth will set them free from wrong behavior and bondage to self-centeredness.

Dear God, Teach me your ways that I might show others how to follow your truth.  Let your truth dwell in me richly.  I want your ways to become a natural outflow of my life.
